28th April: Battle of Flowers

The Battle of Flowers (known in Spanish as ‘Batallas de las Flores’) marks the beginning of a month full of events and activities in Cordoba. During this festival, floats resembling the structure of the Mosque of Cordoba parade down Paseo de la Victoria street. Decorated with paper flowers, these floats carry women in flamenco costumes and move to the rhythm of traditional local songs.

Additionally, a standout feature of this event involves the participants throwing a total of 140,000 flowers and coloured petals, which undoubtedly makes it a very special event. If you don’t want to miss the Battle of Flowers, don’t forget this date: 28 April at 11:00

26th April to 1st May: Cruces de Mayo

Undoubtedly, one of the most special events in Cordoba are the Cruces de Mayo (May Crosses). With more than 70 years of history, this creative celebration consists of decorating the squares and streets of the city with a large cross full of flowers.

Moreover, decorations include manila shawls, flowerpots, and numerous plants.

Balconies Competition

At the same time, the Grilles and Balconies Competition will be held between 2 and 12 May. As the name suggests, this is a competition where the participants show off the balconies of their homes, which, taking advantage of the celebrations, are also filled with pots and colourful plants.

2 to 12  May: Courtyards Festival of Cordoba

A celebration not to be missed during your visit to Cordoba in May is the Courtyards Festival of Cordoba (known in Spanish as ‘Patios Cordobeses’), declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This unique celebration consists of the transformation of the courtyards of private houses into gardens open to the public, where the decoration with plants, fountains and kitchenware makes each courtyard a unique space.

19  April to 10 May: Cordoba Spring Festival.

After visiting the Patios and squares, you can attend the Cordoba Spring Festival, which runs from 19 April to 10 May.

This event stands out for offering nine classical music concerts in some of the most emblematic places in the city, such as the church of San Agustín and the Plaza de Capuchinos. It is organised by the City Council and with the participation of the Cordoba Orchestra.
