For example, Almeria’s arid landscape has been used as a filming location for many famous Westerns, including ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. It has also been utilised for blockbusters such as ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia,’ ‘Doctor Zhivago,’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’

Furthermore, John Lennon filmed ‘How I Won the War’ in Almeria and wrote one of his most famous songs, ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, during his stay. So, Almeria is definitely a great location to check out to see some of your favourite movie moments in person.

Almeria has an amazing food scene

Andalucia is a region with a deep history, and Almeria is no different. Its ancient city dates all the way back to the Phoenicians in the 1st millennium BC.

There were other famous inhabitants of Almeria, however, including the Roman Empire, when it was an important trading centre. Outside the city you can still see the remains of the ancient Roman road of Bayyana.

After a short Visigoth rule, Almeria came under Muslim dominion in the Middle Ages, which is when the city reached the peak of its historical significance. Almeria’s most famous attraction hails from this period in history, the magnificent Alcazaba. This 10th-century fortress is a sight to behold, the second largest of its kind in Andalucia.

Almeria eventually fell under Catholic control in the 16th century, and today, you can visit the beautiful Cathedral of the Incarnation, filled with gorgeous architectural features.
