Exploring Nueva Andalucia
Posted on 21 December 2014The great thing about the location of Nueva Andalucia is that it is roughly halfway along the Costa del Sol and you can reach all the resorts and towns with relative ease. Helle Hollis provide rental cars from Fuengirola and Malaga Airport.
The drive to and from Malaga Airport to Nueva Andalucia should take between 45 minutes and 1 hour depending on the time of day and it is roughly the same distance and time to drive down the coast to Gibraltar. With a hire car you can explore the hill top village of Istan which is located in the hills behind Nueva Andalucia.
Istan is a village that takes you back in time. Its white painted terraced houses cling to the mountain side and it narrow streets are full of older people chatting and watching the world go by.
If you do head up into Istán you should take some time to walk around the whole village. There are some incredible views over orange and lemon groves and from the main view point you can see down through the mountains to the sea.
The road up to Istan is well signposted and the drive will take you around 25 minutes. Actually the journey itself affords some great views and you will pass the large reservoir that feeds water to the whole of Marbella.
If you are staying in Nueva Andalucia and you have kids you can drive to Selwo Safari Park just outside Estepona in less than 20 minutes. You shouldn´t miss out on a visit to Puerto Banus nor to the Marbella old town with the famous orange square.
As most of Nueva Andalucia is away from the main resort it may be wise to hire a car rather than to rely on taxis the whole time.
