Newly opened Art Museum in Mijas – well worth a visit
Posted on 07 January 2014
Between Christmas and New Year we went for a walk through our village of Mijas, a treat we can seldom enjoy on a normal working day – but at last we had the chance to pay a visit to the newest cultural addition to our village.
In Calle Malaga No 28 the Mijas Contemporary Art Museum has recently opened. On permanent show you will find the second most important collection of Picasso ceramics in the world. An exhibition well worth visiting.
Furthermore, on the first floor, the museum is planning to show different art displays, changing every 3 months. For the moment they are showing an exhibition named “Picasso, his friends and contemporaries” featuring among others works of Dali and Braque, both fine artists indeed. An amazing exhibition for a small village!
The museum is small but definately worth visiting. The custodians are all young people who speak English very well and who are not shy to demonstrate it.
The opening hours during winter is daily from 10:00 to 18:00 hours and the entrance will only set you back 3€. You can visit the website of the museum at www.cacmijas.info.
While you are in Mijas I can also warmly recommend a visit to the wine museum “Museo de Vinos de Malaga” which you will find in Calle San Sebastian No 14.

It is housed in the old transformer house of the electricity company Sevillanas. The house itself is very interesting and dates back to 1839. Here you can taste a wide selection of wines produced in the mountains surrounding Malaga and Ronda – as well as enjoy a tapa. It is also possible to buy full bottles of wine to take with you home. A visit to the wine museum is a must whenever we have friends visiting us in Mijas.
You can also visit the website of the wine museum this however is not as interesting since you will miss out on the tasting! The wine museum charges no entry at all and the prices to taste the open wines are very reasonable.
Hope to see you soon in “my” village. p.s. The best and cheapest way to park your Helle Hollis rental car is to leave it in the public parking house which you will find in the centre of the village, next to the town-hall. To make sure visitors stay in Mijas a long time, the parking is charged at a cheap rate of one Euro per full day! Doesn’t get any cheaper than that!
