Exploring Motril

Posted on 21 December 2014

From Motril you can explore the entire Costa Tropical, head west towards the Costa Del Sol or drive inland to the wonderful City of Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges which are a little drive away for those who have made use of a hire car by Helle Hollis.

Motril really does give you the opportunity of organizing some great days out.

The closest areas to explore are the towns and villages of the Costa Tropical. Towns such as La Herradura, Salobrena and Almunecar are all easy to reach by car.

From November to March each year you can visit Europe’s southern most ski resort at Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada National Park. Although this resort has been around for years it is becoming more and more popular with people form outside Spain and it gives you the chance of truly combining a sun and snow holiday.

Many people tend to forget about the Sierra Nevada when the snow melts in March but even in the summer there is plenty to do and see. You will find some excellent Mountain Bike and horse riding trails together with trekking, canoeing and camping. The Sierra Nevada Mountain range is about a 75 minute drive from Motril.

If you are looking to visit nearby resorts such as Sierra Nevada or Salobrena then having a car makes travelling that little easier.

If you head west towards Malaga you will find the Costa Del Sol. During the high season of July and August this part of Spain gets packed but there is a lot going on and plenty to do and see.

About 90 minutes after leaving Motril you could find yourself in the exclusive town of Marbella or at one of the busy theme parks in Benalmadena. The best time of year to see the Costa del Sol is May or September but there is plenty to keep the kids occupied there.
