Exploring Marbella

Posted on 21 December 2014

If you are staying in the Marbella Area then hiring a car from Helle Hollis give you the opportunity of getting out into the countryside and exploring some of the hidden villages up in the hills or simple driving up and down the Costa del Sol stopping of on the various beaches or exploring the various resorts.

With a hire car you the chance to explore more of Marbella and the stunning surroundings.

Marbella

Marbella Town is about halfway between Gibraltar and Malaga. You can drive to either from Marbella in around 40 minutes and in our opinion the best routes to take is via the Toll Road AP-7. Although you obviously pay for the right to travel on the toll road it is generally traffic free and offers some great views of the countryside.

One of the best things about driving around Marbella is that you can get from bustling, Cosmopolitan Town to quiet Spanish Village in about 15 minutes thanks to your rental car. The best and nearest “Old Village” to see is Ojen. Ojen is no more than 10 minutes by car from the main Marbella bypass and yet seems a world away. Ojen is a typical white Andalucian village that somehow manages to cling to the side of the mountain.

From Ojen to can head up even further back into the hills on good roads that makes this an enjoyable and scenic drive.

Not far on from Ojen is the town of Monda which is overlooked by a wonderful old castle.

About 30 minutes drive away from Marbella you can also visit Istán. Istán is also a small white village in the mountain which offers excellent restaurants with typical Spanish food.

Is surprising how different the towns, villages and resorts around Marbella.  Going towards San Pedro you will pass by Puerto Banus which is quite another world to visit.
