Plaza de España

Situated in Seville’s Parque de María Luisa, the Plaza de España is one of the most beautiful locations in the city, a stunning mixture of Baroque Revival, Renaissance Revival and Moorish Revival styles of Spanish architecture. This plaza is one of the most romantic locations in the city, featuring a picture-perfect canal, adorning a huge half-circle complex accessible by four bridges, including a fountain, and of course the spectacular palace-like building in the background.
It’s been used as a filming location on a number of occasions, including for Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, due to its elegant and regal but also fantasy-like aesthetic. Romance is always in the air at Plaza de España but when the sun starts to set, it really becomes a magical location. Consider renting a boat to cruise the canal to complete the experience.
Michelle, from the travel site, Little Wanderblog, has been to Seville’s Plaza de España and shared with us her thoughts: “Plaza de Espana is located in the middle of peaceful Maria Luisa Park, one of Seville’s wonderful green spaces just a short stroll from the lively old town. It’s completely charming and is a great spot in the city for walking and relaxing – not to mention taking photos of the stunning architecture, colourful tiles and my personal favourite the pretty bridges along the semi-circular canal.
“If you stay a while, you might even catch an authentic flamenco performance, which really adds to the whole experience, especially around sunset when the pink and orange skies light up the whole square, it’s simply magical!”
Paul, from the travel blog, Anywhere We Roam, is also a fan of the Plaza de España, and shared with us what he loves about this spot: “Plaza de España is a fantastic place to visit in Seville thanks to the intriguing mix of architectural styles including Art Déco and Mudéjar designs. The massive semi-circular building is a delight to photograph with 48 intricately designed alcoves overlooking a charming canal that runs through the plaza. One of the most enjoyable things about Plaza de España is inspecting the alcoves, each of which depicts a different Spanish province.”

Triana

Known for its lively market of stalls, eateries, and lovely tapas, Triana is a down-to-earth Seville neighbourhood located by the river and a great place to visit restaurants, bars, and live flamenco music. Located away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, separated by the River Guadalquivir, Triana is well worth an exploration, especially as the sun is setting. Wander its markets, take in its famous ceramics, and listen to the flamenco music play as the last rays of sunset permeate the neighbourhood. Cap it all off with a refreshing beverage and a bite to eat on Calle Betis.
One of the best places to admire the sunset in Triana is on the Puente de Isabel II bridge (otherwise known as Puente de Triana). Gaze out at the river with Seville in the background and take in the warm orange glow as the day winds down.
Linda, from the travel blog Retired and Travelling, visited Triana during her stay in Seville and told us that she loved the area: “We were so happy we crossed the Guadalquivir River in Seville and spent the afternoon wandering around the Triana neighbourhood. We walked along the narrow streets and just wandered up one and down another. Everywhere we looked we were intrigued by the wrought iron balconies we found. Artistic and colourful tiles decorated walls, churches, floors, the underside of balconies and even house name plates. Finish a walk at the Mercado de Triana for lots of tasty treats.”
Giralda

You can’t visit Seville without heading to the Giralda, perhaps the city’s most iconic landmark and a perfect spot to enjoy a sunset too. The Giralda is the stunning bell tower of the Seville Cathedral, originally built as a minaret for the former Great Mosque. A mixture of Moorish architecture with Renaissance-style additions, construction lasted from 1184 to 1568.
At 103 metres tall, the Giralda dominates the skyline and provides stunning views of Seville for those who decide to climb to the top and it makes a truly picturesque location to take in a sunset during your visit. If you want to enjoy the setting sun with a view of this exquisite tower, then heading to one of the adjacent rooftop bars is an excellent idea.

Metropol Parasol

Metropol Parasol, also known as the ‘Mushrooms of Seville’, is located in Plaza de la Encarnación and is the largest wooden construction in the world. This project was designed to revitalise the square on which it sits and incorporates a Roman colony into this truly unique building. The wooden construction – that features an archaeological museum, shops, and restaurants – covers the square and boasts a special walkway and terrace on top of the parasols, providing visitors with awesome panoramic views.
Metropol Parasol is a unique spot to enjoy a sunset during your time in Seville, especially when taking to its terrace and walkway – the perfect accompanying activity after visiting the museum and before grabbing a refreshing drink.
The team at Not Just a Tourist – who offer bespoke private tours in Seville – highlight Metropol Parasol as one the city’s great tourist attractions and suggest visiting as a top tip for sunset seekers: “If you are looking for some incredible panoramic views of the city, this is your place! Climbing to the top you will enjoy and admire a 360-degree view of the whole city. Here comes another treat for the sunset lovers.”

One of the very best ways to enjoy a sunset in Seville is by booking yourself a lovely river cruise of the Guadalquivir River. This scenic waterway provides a highlights reel tour of Seville’s landmarks and is even more exquisite in the evening as the sun is setting.
One of the best sights during a Guadalquivir River cruise is certainly the Torre del Oro, a 36-metre tower built in the 12th century, also known as the ‘Tower of Gold’. It looks beautiful as the sun is setting and if you don’t fancy a river cruise but want to enjoy this pretty spot, you can head to the Torre del Oro on foot and, depending on the time of year, enjoy the sunset as the tower is open until 18.45 in the evening.
