The Lions are back where they belong at Alhambra
Posted on 10 August 2012
You may already have visited Alhambra in Granada as it is only 1 and ½ hour drive away from Malaga airport, but now would be an ideal time to visit the Alhambra again.
The famous water fountain in the Lions Court is finally restored after 10 long years of work and opened up again for the public. The 12 lions were very deteriorated due to the climate changes and lime in the water but can now be viewed in all their splendor. Also the hydraulic water system has been restored so water is coming out of their mouths as it did centuries ago and 250 pieces of marble were used to lay the square where it nestles.
You must pre-book your tickets in advance to visit Alhambra which can be done on this link. On your ticket you will get a QR code which you present on paper or online together with your passport or identification card when you enter Alhambra.
In general the visit will take 3 hours. You are free to visit all the installations in the time period you wish. The only fixed time table is for visiting the famous Nasrid Palace as only a limited amount of visitors are allowed to enter during the day.
After you visit the Alhambra, don´t miss the chance to see the center of Granada which hosts lots more monuments to enjoy as well as some of the greatest tapas bars you will find in Andalucía.
