Exploring La Herradura

Posted on 21 December 2014

La Herradura is a small, un spoilt village with narrow streets that run down to a beach side promenade that is line with cafes, bars and restaurants.

There are many stunning views to see in La Herradura, using a hire car in La Herradura is a great way to explore and take in as many of the sights as possible. From gorgeous walks to golden sandy beaches.

There are a good number of beaches in and around La Herradura. The main beach in front of the promenade is the most popular and offers a 2km stretch of sand, which has a full range of facilities such as changing rooms, showers, toilets and lifeguards.

The two other main beaches around La Herradura are Calaiza Beach and Cantarrijan beach, which offer quieter conditions than La Herradura Beach and are only a short drive away.

The other key towns and villages in the immediate area of La Herradura are Almunecar, Motril and Salobrena. If you head up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains behind La Herradura you can find the mountain area of La Alpujarra. Again a car is a must if travelling these distances, and we recommend you to hire a car from Malaga Airport.   Helle Hollis car rental can help you upon your arrival to Malaga Airport.

You can also easily drive west and sample the busy tourist areas of the Costa Del Sol. The seaside towns of Nerja, Torremolinos, Marbella, Fuengirola, Puerto Banus and Benalmadena are all within a 2 hour drive of La Herradura.

Benalmadena (75 minute drive) in particular has a smart port area with a good selection of restaurants and a good selection of theme parks and play areas to keep the kids busy.

The main Spanish Cities that are within driving distance of La Herradura are Almeria, Malaga, Seville, Granada and Cordoba.

If you are looking to visit nearby resorts such as Granada or Cordoba then having a car makes travelling that little easier.

Almeria is to the east of La Herradura, the drive should take no longer that 2 hours and is about 140 kms in distance.

Malaga is to the west of La Herradura and is a city that is often ignored by visitors to the Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical. It is however a smart bustling city with excellent restaurants, interesting buildings and architecture and is home to the Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, The Russian Art Collection and Pompidou Museum.

The Cities of Seville and Cordoba also within a 3-hour drive of La Herradura but realistically it would be better to organize an overnight stay in order to see the sights and to truly experience these great Spanish Cities.
