Alicante is an elegant city which is the capital of the most southern province in the region of Valencia. Situated on Spain’s eastern coastline it has excellent sandy beaches and a backdrop of mountains and natural areas of forest.

Alicante has a particularly fine esplanade which leads to a marina at the eastern end. Some of the boats here are larger than the local ferries so it is fascinating to walk around with many opportunities to stop at the large number of bars and restaurants. On the other side of the marina there is an indoor leisure centre with its own cinemas and shopping centre.
