Spanish cities are known for their magnificent churches and the Seville Cathedral<\/a> certainly falls under this category. The goal with this 16th<\/sup>-century gem was to create a cathedral so beautiful that people would think the designers were mad. Well, in terms of sheer beauty, they certainly succeeded.<\/p>\n

The Cathedral is free to visit on Monday\u2019s between 16.30 and 18.00 as its most iconic feature, the Giralda \u2013 an exquisite bell tower that can\u2019t be missed. Enjoy an evening visit to the Alc\u00e1zar of Seville<\/h2>\n

The Alc\u00e1zar of Seville<\/a> (the Royal Palace) is one of the city\u2019s most iconic landmarks and a must-see during any visit. Fortunately, you can enjoy a free visit to this stunning palace on Mondays from 18:00 to 19:00 (April \u2013 September) and from 16:00 to 17:00 (October – March).<\/p>\n

The architecture is staggering, and the opulent surroundings make for a perfect free activity before sitting down for a bite to eat. A mix of Moorish and Christian influences, the Alc\u00e1zar is a living embodiment of Seville\u2019s fascinating history.<\/p>\n

With wonderfully preserved courtyards, patios and chapels, there\u2019s plenty to marvel at. Explore the charming streets of the Santa Cruz district<\/h2>\n

Seville\u2019s Santa Cruz district is the city\u2019s former Jewish quarter and is the location of many of Seville\u2019s most important historical attractions (including the aforementioned cathedral and Alc\u00e1zar.<\/p>\n

But beyond visiting the attractions themselves, wandering the charming streets of Santa Cruz is a wonderful free thing to do. This delightful neighbourhood is alive with vibrant colours and, as Seville City Guide<\/a> describes, is a \u201cmaze of narrow streets and alleys, where you can wander around or enjoy one of the many (touristy) restaurants or attractive squares.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, make sure to spend some time strolling around this pretty area of the city, taking in the sights and sounds of Seville\u2019s tourist centre.<\/p>\n

Relax in Parque de Mar\u00eda Luisa<\/h2>\n

Sometimes, it\u2019s nice to be able to just sit down and relax among some greenery, and this is exactly what\u2019s on offer at the exquisite Parque de Mar\u00eda Luisa. Built in 1929, this popular garden and the breathtaking Plaza de Espa\u00f1a are situated in the south-east of the city, populated by hundreds of exotic trees, historic buildings, colourful benches, and Moorish fountains. All of which create a truly tranquil oasis to enjoy.<\/p>\n

With botanical trails and nature galore, it\u2019s easy to see why so many stop by and, considering its massive size, you can find a unique spot to enjoy with friends and loved ones. The Pamley-Liddells family from the travel blog Journey of a Nomadic Family<\/a> have visited the gardens and highly praised what they found:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think we had any appreciation of just how BIG this park was, and it wasn\u2019t until we started walking around that we understood just how hot and large it was!<\/p>\n

\u201cThe park is enormous, 100 acres of land and with more than 150 different species of trees and plants from five different continents. To save our feet, we hired a bike and explored like kings and queens.\u201d<\/p>\n

Visit the 13th century Torre del Oro<\/h2>\n

Seville is a wonderfully old city and one of its most ancient landmarks is the fascinating Torre del Oro<\/a>. Built in the 13th<\/sup> century by the Moors with stone and golden tiles, this watchtower served to protect the city from invading forces.<\/p>\n

Still standing today, this is a monument to the Moorish civilization and the walls that at one point in time enclosed the city. You can visit for free on Mondays (and for a very small fee on other days), with access including an interesting maritime museum, documenting Seville\u2019s navy history.<\/p>\n
