{"id":1080,"date":"2015-11-10T11:47:42","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T11:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/car-rental\/?p=1080"},"modified":"2024-08-22T13:50:23","modified_gmt":"2024-08-22T11:50:23","slug":"the-stupa-of-benalmadena","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/blog\/en\/the-stupa-of-benalmadena.htm","title":{"rendered":"The Stupa of Benalm\u00e1dena"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that<strong> Europe&#8217;s largest stupa<\/strong> is located in Benalm\u00e1dena?<\/p>\n<p>You might have wondered what is the large white geometric shaped building with gold dome which can be seen from Fuengirola beach when looking up towards the Benalm\u00e1dena hillside?<\/p>\n<p>At the entrance of Benalm\u00e1dena village you will find Europe&#8217;s <strong>largest Buddhist stupa (temple).<\/strong> Normally\u00a0a stupa is a sealed structure, but this one you can enter. <strong>The stupa is 33 meters high and almost 26 meters wide<\/strong>. The stupa is beautifully situated with views over Fuengirola bay and is worth visiting as an observation point of the Coast.<\/p>\n<p>The stupa was inaugurated in 2003 and has been decorated by Nepalese artists showing the life of the Buddha Sakyamuni. In the basement of the stupa, there are changing exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>It is<strong> free to visit the stupa<\/strong> and only the exhibition in the basement costs 2 euros.<\/p>\n<p>According to Buddhist tradition it is said that one&#8217;s wishes are fulfilled if one walks around the stupa in a clock wise direction. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Worth a try, isn\u00b4t it?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Estupa-Benalmadena.jpg\"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1083 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Estupa-Benalmadena-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"The Stupa Benalmadena\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Estupa-Benalmadena-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hellehollis.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Estupa-Benalmadena.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Opening hours:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday &#8211; Saturday:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a010:00h to 14:00h &amp; 15:30h to 19:00h<\/p>\n<p>Sunday:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a010:00h to 14:30h &amp; 15:30h to 19:00h.<\/p>\n<p>Monday:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 closed<\/p>\n<p>Every Tuesday and Friday there are guided mediation at 18:30h, which is free, even though a donation is welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Next to the stupa you will find the<strong> Butterfly museum<\/strong> also called &#8220;<strong>Mariposario<\/strong>&#8221; which you can combine your visit with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to get there:<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom M\u00e1laga airport you take the motorway A-7 towards Fuengirola. Take the exit at 217km for Benalm\u00e1dena Pueblo\/ Mijas and head towards Benalm\u00e1dena village. At the first roundabout before the village you will see the stupa.
