Rentacar Nerja Guide to Nerja |
|
Nerja is quite a lot different to many other parts of the Costa del Sol. It has a more dramatic landscape with cliffs that tumble down into the sea rather than the gentle slopes that you find in places like Marbella. Nerja has a more elevated area then the other parts of the Costa Del Sol, with that Nerja Spain hire cars are a great way to get about as well as posing other benefits. The town itself is also more low rise than high rise and the center point and jewel in Nerja's crown is the Balcon de Europa, or Balcony of Europe. This is a breath taking view that used to be the site of an old Moorish Castle and is now a wonderful promenade that juts out into the Mediterranean. If you stand at the end of the promenade don't forget to turn around and look back! Whilst the view to the Sierra Almijara Mountains isn't quite as spectacular as looking out across the bay it's still quite a view. |

Nerja has also managed to hold on to its Old World charm and the narrow streets and white painted houses are still full of flowers and people chatting. There is no shortage of places to eat and drink in Nerja and although the main "high street" shops haven't found there way here yet there are still a good number of shops, boutiques and gift shops to wander around. No trip to Nerja would be complete without taking a look at the caves which can be found around 3 kms outside the town center. Open to the public throughout the year these pre-historic caves contain painting sand remains that date back twenty thousand years. In the summer one of the Caves doubles up as a concert hall with various live performances available. Most people come out of Malaga Airport and head west towards the main Costa del Sol resorts, if you are staying in Nerja though you come out of the airport and head east past Malaga City and along the N340 which heads to Almeria and the Costa Tropical. |
