Guide to Puerto Banus

Puerto Banus has grown from one mans dream of an exclusive marina resort into an internationally recognized luxury holiday destination.

You will find Puerto Banus at the eastern end of the Marbella area. It is about 5 km from Marbella Town and 60 kms from Malaga Airport.

Although fairly small and compact, Puerto Banus packs in an enormous number of shops, restaurants and bars and cafes.

Puerto Banus

El Corte Ingles are the largest department store group in Spain and in Puerto Banus they have an enormous five storey department that sells everything you can imagine. On the ground floor is a large hypermarket which also offers a great selection of food. If you are from the UK then I would liken El Corte Ingles to Selfridges.

If designer shopping is your thing then you will find most of the main designers have a shop or presence in Puerto Banus. For example  Dolce and Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Loewe and Louis Vuitton all have branches in Puerto Banus.

Although we have talked a lot about the shops, Puerto Banus was and still is predominantly about the Marina. There is every type of boat and yacht moored within the marina at Puerto Banus and sitting in one of the many waterside restaurants or pavement cafes is an experience to be remembered.

The beaches in Puerto Banus can be found on either side of the Marina. The beach clubs that line the beaches all offer sun beds, drinks and food throughout the day. Despite appearances all the beach clubs have their own personality and it is worth trying a few different ones to find the best one to suit you.

You can eat literally any kind of food in Puerto Banus, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Argentinean and of course, Spanish. Everywhere you look there are restaurants, even TGI Friday and Mac Donald’s are here. You can also eat at any of the beach clubs (Chiringuitos) and most of them offer fresh sardines cooked in front of an open fire.

There are plenty of car parks in Puerto Banus and although you see many people parking in the streets our advice is to play safe and put the car in a car park.

If you would like more information about car hire in Puerto Banus then please contact the Helle Hollis  at Malaga Airport.
