Out and about – a visit to Monda

Castillo de Monda

Are you going out for a day trip ?  How about a visit to Monda and its castle, Castillo de Monda.

With starting point from Málaga Airport you can either drive inland via Cártama or head along the A-7  costal road towards Marbella. If you choose to take the A-7 along the coast line then turn off when you reach km 186 and head for Ojén/Monda. The exit is just next to the big shopping centre La Cañada.

On your way to Monda, we suggest you turn off at MA-5300 and go for a hiking trip next to Refugio Juanar. About 15 minutes’ drive on a small windy road will get you to Refugio Juanar where you can park the car.

The hike leads you to a beautiful panoramic viewpoint of Marbella and the coast. The walk can easily be done in an hour and the difficulty is low and can be considered an easy family walk. Are you looking for a more challenging hike, then click here to get more information.

After the walk you have probably got hungry and we suggest that you continue to Monda, a further 20 minutes’ drive away, and make a visit to the beautiful castle “Castillo de Monda”.

The original construction of today’s castle probably dates from the eighth century; and it fell into disrepair towards the end of the ninth century. During the centuries the battles between Christians and Moors left the castle in ruins the past 400 years. First in mid 1970s the rebuilt was started and today you will find a small boutique hotel with wellness and spa.
