Capital of the province with the same name, Malaga is a beautiful city with many attractions including historical monuments, beautiful gardens and award winning beaches.
Most of the sights lies to the east of the Guadalmedina River with the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle which were built by the Moors in the eleventh and eighth centuries respectively dominating the city.
You can take day trips around Malaga and outside Malaga with a rental car from Helle Hollis.
The Alcazaba has three palaces, one of which is still in its original form, with the others restored in 1930 and now home to the archaeological museum displaying Phoenician, Roman and Muslim artifacts.
The Gibralfaro Castle towers above the Alcazaba and was the Emirate of Granada’s main port. It was built in the eighth century and rebuilt in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
Explore the Gibralfaro towers. Other attractions include La Manquita, Malaga’s Cathedral dating back to the sixteenth century, numerous churches, the Picasso Museum containing hundreds of the artist’s paintings, sketches and sculptures, Museum of Popular Arts crammed full of historical arts and crafts and the Museum of Flamenco for those interested in dance. Don´t miss out on a visit to Carmen Thyssen Museum, Pompidou Museum, The Russian Collection and the Automobile Museum.
