Guide to Fuengirola

21/12/2014 In What to do in Andalucia

Fuengirola is only about 20 minutes from Malaga Airport by car and unlike most of the other resorts that are further along the Costa del Sol there is a train service in and out of Fuengirola.

A large percentage of the population in Fuengirola is made of British Expats and you will find and see a lot of things from “back home” in Fuengirola.

To see more of Fuengirola, or to explore new areas outside of your accomodation/home you can consider to hire a car in Fuengirola.

Hiring a car in Fuengirola isn’t a problem as Helle Hollis has a local branch office there.

A large, indoor shopping and leisure complex called the Miramar Center provides some welcome relief to the hot summer sun and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to keep you occupied. Many of the shops such as Zara, Mango  and Primark will be familiar names to you.

You will also find a multi screen cinema at the Miramar complex which shows at least one film per day in English. If you have got kids there is also a outdoor children’s play area on the first floor.

Staying on the theme of kids, Fuengirola Zoo, Bioparc, is well worth a visit and in July and August the Zoo is open until midnight for what it calls its “night time safari”. There is also a good water park. Agua Mijas, with a huge selection of slides and pools for the kids to splash about in.

Fuengirola boasts some 5 kms of good, blue flag beaches which are backed by a wonderful, palm tree lined promenade. You are able to sit anywhere on the beach free of charge but if you want to sit on one of the many sun beds that line the beach then expect to pay around 5 euros for the pleasure.

Fuengirola makes an excellent holiday destination, especially if you have got kids and if you need to hire a car then you will find the Fuengirola Branch of Helle Hollis at C/ Lamo de Espinosa, 6 29640. Tel: (+34) 951 01 40 56 Fax: (+34) 952 47 98 00 E: fuengirola@hellehollis.com
